Premier League: HBU vs HBU2
Date; 23/5/2010; Venue; Pier Pavilion 9.00am
Herne Bay United have two teams in the Premier League and they faced each other this weekend on a close but comfortable encounter. United were without first team player Neil Austin after the National Disciplinary Board issued a one match ban from the previous National Cup game to be served in his next game whether that be National Premier League or the National Cup. The upside for United is now Neil Austin will be eligible for the National Cup Final at the Pier on the 24th July 2010 as he will have served his ban.
United started strongly going two goals in front, captain Simon Hosking with the first and Joel De Figueiredo getting the second, United’s goal of the game – a well executed team play with an emphatic volley to finish. Unfortunately United’s captain sustained an injury to his hand and was unable to continue for the remainder of the match.
United looked in control but it was HBU2 who brought one back through Matt Barton and a second after conceding a penalty shortly afterwards. Barker finished well to restore the goal cushion only for HBU2’s Steve Clarke to respond almost immediately again. United remained calm and with two quick goals finished the half 5-2 ahead.
The second half was not so tight to start with, United scored twice through Barker and then took their foot off the gas.
HBU2 aware of the opportunities worked against United methodically to score three goals evenly spaced through the half by Richard Walker, Nick Barton and Clarke with his second bringing the score for the game to 7-5, but United upped the tempo and Barker finished in the closing minutes of the game to keep HBU2 at a comfortable distance. Final score HBU 8 – 5 HBU2
A Herne Bay United official reported later on the injury to Simon Hosking confirming it to be tissue damage and he will be seeing a specialist over the coming days hoping to speed up the recovery time because the doctor has said it could be between 3 and 6 week’s recovery time.
United are currently sitting second in the League with a game in hand with only two league games left to play in the coming weeks, and the National Cup Final closing the season.
