Premier League HBU v Grimsby

Premier League HBU v Grimsby
Date: 6th March 2010, Venue: Pier Pavilion, Herne Bay
Herne Bay United looked to continue the progress they made on the
league leaders Grimsby and put on a strong performance. United started with the same team that beat Middlesbrough in their previous outing, playing strong and moving the ball with purpose. Captain Simon Hosking put the champions on the right foot with an unstoppable shot within 30 seconds of the start.
United continued to wait and be patient and didn’t over push and commit, United’s next goal didn’t come for 11 minutes, but looked dangerous on the break and punished Grimsby for their errors and in the final 13 minutes of the half United scored 3 times through Barker with the third coming from a defence splitting pass from
teammate Karl Smith. United finished the half with a comfortable 4-0 lead.
United continued with the strategy of the first half and were rewarded almost immediately and looked in complete control scoring a further 3 goals with three counter attacks with some excellent team goals, Joel Figueiredo assisting with one and finishing one himself.
At this point United were comfortable with a seven goal lead but their concentration lapsed and Grimsby were given a renewed confidence after a being awarded a goal from a dubious decision on a ‘did it didn’t it’ cross the line. United conceded a further 4 through Allan Johnson and Andrew Simms getting a hat-trick. United however never let the pressure off scoring twice to keep daylight in the score and finished the game 9-5 victors.
Stand in Manager Dendy Hudson who is not playing this week due to
injury “We were impressive and dominating throughout, making some excellent team moves and creating lots of chances. Everyone was determined and fully committed to ensure 3 crucial points were gained. However, the last 7 minutes need to be reviewed and has given us something to tactically discuss and work on at training.
United are now second in the table with a game in hand and have every chance of remaining in control if they keep their heads.
