Through Carlos Amaral, the NRHA are putting in place a progressive program for the training and development of Coaches.
This program will be supported by documented courses which can be implemented year on year by whoever is responsible for this area of development at the time.
Of course, as rules change, these documents will be adjusted to suit.
To date we have already in place a Level 1 and a Level 2 Course and we are currently working on a Level 3 Course.
Further courses will be Levels 4 & 5 which will be added in due course.
ALL Coaches will be assessed and graded according to the standards set by our National Coaching Director.
Grading will be done via the following methods:-
1. By attending the Coaching Courses in order.
2. By assessment carried out by our National Coaching Director, through the Coach’s direct involvement with National Teams since 2005, when the position of National Coaching Director was introduced.
3. By producing any previous NRHA Coaching certification together with a Coaching CV which will then be assessed by our National Coaching Director, for a suitable grade or to attend a suitable course.
Ongoing Development/Progress/Assessment
This can be achieved through;-
1. Progressive course levels.
2. Coaching workshops
3. Club training sessions
4. Regional Training sessions (to be included on National Calendar 2009-10)
5. National Training Weekends
It is intended to form a National Association of Coaches, where for a small fee; ongoing information such as training exercises, fitness exercises, set moves, tactics, etc. etc. can be accessed on the internet by members.
There will also be a discussion forum and a question and answer page.
What we are trying to put in place is one standard for all that will be ongoing and not changed each time another volunteer takes on the role of National Coaching Director.
Because of his background as both a player and a coach in Portugal, and his access to information and new ideas from his contacts in both Portugal and Spain, I believe that, for the foreseeable future, Carlos Amaral, our current National Coaching Director, is the right person to carry out this important part of the development of our sport.
I hope that you agree.
