The news of the death of Norris Frost (75) on Thursday 5th April, born in 1931, has saddened many.
Working Career
After completing his National Service in the RAF he became a highly skilled engineer working for a firm in Chelmsford until his retirement. He had a total love of all things mechanical and he spent countless hours working with motorcycles and cars especially the make of ‘Wolseleys’.
Playing Career
He joined the Chelmsford RHC as a player and goal-keeper and later the Club Secretary. He played first in the Essex League (1950’s) and then the London and Home Counties League (1957 – 1975) which he was also the Secretary of for many years. He also played for Greenwich at one time. His playing career was severely restricted when he was injured in a motorcycle accident with his brother David but he courageously carried on playing in goal.
NRHA Administration
In 1960 Norris became the NRHA’s District Hon Secretary for the East Anglia area and later the Hon Competition Secretary in 1965 and he remained in this post until 1973. He was then elected as General Secretary in 1973 until he stood down in 1977. For two seasons he became Chairman of the NRHA Executive Committee for the period 1978 – 1980. At the AGM of 1981 he was made a ‘Life Member’ in recognition of the 20 years dedicated service to the Association.
A couple of years later he became the Editor of the NRHA Roller Hockey magazine for a short time. he was editor of the NRHA Newsletter from 1970 for 4 years.In the following years he was a regular attendee of the NRHA AGMs and Cup Finals right up to when he became seriously ill in 1990s. He was in hospital in a coma for over 100 days but fortunately made a full recovery.
He was a real gentleman and all his many friends in the sport will greatly miss him.
The funeral takes place at Chelmsford Crematorium in Essex on Tues 17th April at 11.00am.
