Carlos Amaral, Nat Coaching Director has issued the following statement concerning the appointment of National Team Coaches.
To stop any speculation I would like to inform the membership that Phil McVey was appointed in Jan 2005 as the National Schoolboys Head Coach to run the team for 2 International Championships. This he has done well showing big improvements on previous results.
The objective was for Phil to move up with the players within the national structure but this could not happen this year as I have decided to keep the Juniors’ and Seniors’ Head Coaches in position for 1 more season.
Therefore Phil has decided not be involved on the National Structure and to concentrate on his club coaching and playing duties.
Finally I would like to take this opportunity to thank Phil for all the work and the great job he has done over the past two years. I look forward to having him back on the National Coaching Team in the near future.
I will personally be taking over as the Under 17s Head Coach position for the 2007 European Championships. Confirmation of all the positions relating to the National Teams will be made later.
Carlos Amaral
Coaching Director
