On Sunday 5th March the NRHA Executive asked Tony Czifra (Ex-Competitions Secretary) to begin the organisation of the Annual Veterans Tournament, who was happy to oblige.
“I’m happy to be the main organiser for this event. It’s always good to see the old faces again, as well as get a bit of a tan at Southsea!”
Last season was the first in many, many years where the second day was partially rained off, but let’s hope for good weather this year!
The event is scheduled to again be held at the Southsea Skating Rink, played over 2 days : Saturday/Sunday 22/23rd July 2006.
“There’s less players around unfortunately. I’m going to suggest to the Exec we allow 1 underage player per team this year, to bring us closer in line with the Spanish and Portugeuse Veterans” said Tony. “In Spain Veterans is from 32years old and upwards. If we allowed 1 player in this age bracket to complement the over 38’s, we might get a better turnout”. Ultimately this decision will sit with the NRHA Executive to rule and the last thing we want to do is put off our older players and life members from donning their skates!
Currently the rules are that players MUST be 38 years old on the date of the competition. Goalkeepers can be off any age, as long as they HAVE NOT competed at Premier League or National Team (any age) in the past 3 years.
