Euro Under 17 Championships – Quimper- England v Switzerland

“A really good result- fully deserved by all the players” said Coach Phil McVey. The tactics were again as in earlier matches and it proved successful as the half-time score was 0 – 0.

Five minutes into the 2nd period the Swiss scored a ‘flukey’ goal but this just spurred on the England boys and although the opposition did break through to go 2 goals up that was as far as they got. England hit the crossbar on several occasions but could not score and inspite of some questionable refereeing the team maintained their efforts.
With five minutes on the clock the tactics were changed and changed again for the final 2 to a full rink press. Philip said “all the players, even though extremely tired, obeyed this instruction to the letter and held the score to 2 – 0. They could not have done more!’
This was the best score against a Swiss National team for many years.
