WORLD A - SAN JOSE - ENGLAND V FRANCE

August 9th, 2005 · No Comments

England 1 France 2

2 mins into the match and England had the ball in the net only for the referee not to see. That set the scene for the match and the balance of the refereeing decisions.

It happened again later in the half but this time the referee blew just before the ball rolled over the French line. With England inundating the French box, France gave away a penalty and a direct free hit but neither was scored.

Then, with less than one minute remaining on the half, the referees missed a clear penalty to England and France’s Huvelin broke away and scored from a long range slap-shot.

7 minutes into the second half Remi Hourcq slapped the ball from the corner and the goal cage moved under pressure from Dan’s hand taking it to 2-0 to France.

England piled on the pressure and despite another penalty, a direct free hit and 3 times as many attempts on goal as France, England failed to beat the French keeper until a run from Brendan Barker found the spot over his right shoulder with less than 2 minutes to go.

France tried to keep possession but England had 6 attacks tin the last 2 minutes but could not find that equalizer.

A disappointing result from a great team performance.
