Plymouth – 6/12/04
Plymouth Roller Hockey club hosted the second round of the Southern Intermediates on Sunday.
The first game involved Plymouth and Farnham, who had drawn their game in the previous round. The game was a scrappy one, with the score always remaining close. With Farnham 4-3 up, Plymouth missed a penalty with minutes left in the game. This gave Farnham the two points for their first win.
The second game involved Herne Bay and Herne Bay Utd, and as expected, a hard fought match. Both teams played with total commitment, which occasionally resulted in a little over exuberance. HBU reversed the result from the previous round, winning by the close margins, 2-1.
Plymouth then faced HBU, and took a shock 2-0 lead with two well worked goals. HBU finally woke up and managed to score 5 goals with no reply by Plymouth.
Farnham then took on the other team from Herne Bay, losing 5-1, although the score didn’t quite reflect the possession that Farnham had. The latter teams wayward passing and gifting the ball to the opposition at times allowed HB to score several breakaway goals.
The final two games saw much higher scores, with HBU beating Farnham 13-1, and HBU beating Plymouth 13-2. The low scores in the early games, followed by these much higher scores, give a clear indication of the strength in depth of the two teams from Kent, with Plymouth and Farnham being worn down by the constant hard defending they had to do in earlier games.
After two rounds, HB and HBU lead with equal points, with Farnham in third place after their win against Plymouth.
