I think our individual match reports from Macau and this final round-up from Carlos have said it all.
The players did a great job in Macau and showed a professional focus that was well appreciated by the other teams, the organisation and the spectators (except against Macau, of course). They were excellent ambassadors for England and our sport. I am sure Carlos is right in saying that of the Group B Nations, England is regarded as the 2004 Champions.
I would also like to mention the other teams. They were all there quite simply because they love roller hockey and it showed. In every game there were examples of what makes our sport so enjoyable even if way off the professional level. It was good to be there with them.
Macau is behind us. Phase 2 of our mission has begun. The England team and its management are now concentrating on being ready for Group A. We have our fitness targets. We have our tactical objectives. We have just 9 months to do it.
Our players love their hockey but it all has to be done amid the pressures of their working and home lives. With our players and our cohesive and expert management team I believe we have all the ingredients and a tremendous opportunity in front of us. But it’s not going to happen without all the hard work.
I am looking forward to it.
