At the after-event party, Catalunya thanked the Organisation for “the best tournament they had never played in”. Make of that what you will but for England the match was more a World A training than a World B final.
3-0 at half time and 6-0 at the end of the match. 2 Catalunya goals came from counter-attacks but whenever England took shape to attack that was the risk. Possession was probably 50/50 and an excellent performance from Ben Wells in goal.
The presentation ceremony was entertaining with the teams carried on by bicycle-rickshaw with the bizarre spectacle of England being represented guardsmen goose-stepping to bagpipe music! OOps! Then there was the very lengthy Catalan anthem….
A good final day’s matches and sound organisation for friendship and hockey. Now look out for the politics.
Looking at the state of our team this morning (Sunday)it is hard to envisage the excellent team that would have won World B but for the professionals from Spain’s heartland of hockey.
