England – Switzerland
Match 5 Thursday 14th Oct
Starting again with full court Man-Man, England matched the Swiss in all aspects of the game, George, Scott and Steve combining well in attack. Alex covered the defence and all the play came through the young skipper. As we pressed for possession and goals inevitable gaps appeared in the defence, and as in other games there was often the occasion when we were exposed with two and three on one, easy for the Swiss to score, all the effort and determination counts for nothing when we give easy possession away.
Having said that the determination and passion of this team is undeniable, they give everything, often first to the ball but again give the ball away far too cheaply.
At this point we must start mentioning the standard of refereeing, we all make mistakes and accepting that all referees are human, then somebody please tell me how can they be so obviously biased towards the English players. It is becoming so obvious as to be embarrassing. These are not my comments but the collective views of all of the team here, even Doctor Mike who is a respected referee at home was seen to offer the French referee a copy of the rules at the end of the game.
Getting back to the play, this has been a tough hard week for all associated with the England team, they need success, and this amount of effort cannot go un-rewarded, maybe not at this tournament but certainly in future events.
Swiss eventually run out 11-0 victors.
