England – Spain
Match 4 Wednesday 13th Oct
England again started strong against an impressive Spanish side, England matched then in the early exchanges until an extremely dubious penalty was awarded by the German Referee. None of the loyal English crowd could understand why the penalty was awarded and after continuous dialogue they still were none the wiser. The Spanish were proving tough opposition, extremely fast, strong and accurate. Another penalty, this time for apparent holding and the scene was set for the game.
If one positive can be taken away from this tournament, it is that this team that Paul and Keith have put together in a short time are not quitters, they give 100% in all the games, Scott and Johnny never stop, Ed and Alex are always strong and determined, Steven and Josh will always struggle with the physical side of the game but more than make up for it in there positive attitude and unquestionable skill in front of goal.
Man to man definitely gives the team mobility, we compete as much as we can but full court against the Spanish and Portuguese can only be considered as training and experience as these lads never experience this quality of opposition.
One can see that although a heavy defeat, the team is improving as a unit, the goalkeepers are improving both in technique and style but they are never exposed to this type of pressure.
Counter attacks are taking more shape and we managed to create a number of goal scoring opportunities.
Final score 0-24
