Senior Europeans- France Report part 2 - Manager

September 30th, 2004 · No Comments

Report 2 -FROM RON BARKER:-

I thank all the team that came to France for the European Championship and making it such an enjoyable experience. Our target was the Germany match and to that extent we failed but we were up against it from the off. The German team, as reported in the Spanish and Portuguese press, has improved a lot since the last competition. The Germans went on to cause an upset by beating France and putting them into 6th place on their own turf.

In our match against France I would have liked to have done better but the Holland result made up for it. We learned a lot both on and off the pitch and this should improve our performance in Macau, which is what we want.

It should not go un-noticed that we won the Fair Play Trophy – the biggest on show! Normally I might be slightly embarrassed by this as it would mean we were last and had not competed hard enough. On this occasion, I am delighted as we were not last and our players had the discipline to avoid picking up stupid cards.

The team selected for the World B Championship in Macau is as follows:

Ben Wells
David Garlick
Darrel Pearce
Joe Wheatley
Jess I’Anson
Brendan Barker
Simon Hosking
Neil Austin
Mark Waddingham
James Taylor

There are only 2 changes from the team that went to La Roche -Ben Wells has come in for Ian Morrison and Neil Austin for Karl Smith.
