Over the weekend of the 11th/12th September the England
Schoolboy hopefuls, 4 goalkeepers and 8 of the 10 field players,
from whom the final selection was to be made, travelled to
Alcorcon near Madrid to take part in an invitation tournament.
This was part of the training programme set out by Paul Colton
and the competition was used to make the final selection of the
players to represent England at the forthcoming European
Championships being held in Viareggio, Italy in October.
The boys had two very hard games against Spanish opposition.
Both of the Spanish teams were made up of Junior and Senior
players and although our schoolboys lost both games, they put
up some very creditable performances.
The final selection is as follows :-
Alex De Figueiredo Maidstone
Steven Manford Manchester
Scott Willard Maidstone
Johnny Argyle Middlesborough
Damaras Gordon Moss Side
George Noble Ely
Josh Bishop Letchworth
Edward Armstrong Manchester
Goal Keepers ;- Ashley Pay Letchworth
Daniel Ottway-Ruthwen Maidstone
As well as Paul Colton and myself, we will be taking our own
Fitness Coach Horace Jones. Mike Armstrong will help on the
medical side of things.
We have two more training sessions, the first will be a match on
the 26th September immediately after the League Cup Finals at
Bushfields Sports Centre, Peterborough.
The second will be on the 3rd October also at Peterborough.
Congratulations to those who managed to get selected for this
team.
For those who did not make it this time, many are eligible for
next year and we intend to take these to Spain for a training
camp at the same time that this year’s team are in Italy. This
group will be supervised by Arthur Corr from Peterborough.
