Manager, Ron Barker reported that the Teams motivation was down after the annnouncement of the Referees for the match. This was however rebuilt only to have their worst fears realised minutes into the game when a penalty was awarded against them for a foul clearly way outside the box. Chasing a match against Germany is always a difficult thing to do as we know from past experience.
Our man to man play was rusty after 2 days of saving energy against the top teams.
The consequence was we were now 2 goals down which Ron saw as defensive errors but Morrison felt he should have saved.
After that the match was relatively even with chances missed and mistakes on both sides. James Taylor scored from the penalty spot and Ian Morrison save one against us.
Again it was even play but a disappointing result and dispite the grievences about the Referees Ron felt it was a fair result, not the score but as a win for the Germans. They were a more battle hardened team with a couple of weeks intensive preparation.
The team will use tonight’s game against Spain to practise man to man play and work to do their best for a reasonable final place from the last games.
It is clear that England, even with improved fitness, are a physically weaker team than any of the others in the competition.
