10.00am 30 9 03. More than 1.000 spectators watched
this mornings match.
Starting line up, Dan Barton, Neil Austin, Joe Wheatley,
Daryl Pearce & James Taylor.
Team instructed to start with a box, diamond defense.
The team are playing well and creating chances, but
are unable to finish.
With 7 minutes gone a Mozambique player barges Dan
inside the ‘D’ falls over and the experienced Spanish
referee awards a penalty!! Daniel makes a good save
to keep the score 0 – 0.
10 minutes gone and Matt Oaten comes on for Shaun
Pearce, 20 seconds later the Mozambique no 3 scores
and England go 1 down!
Within 9 seconds young James Taylor hits a slapshot
from the half way line to even the game at 1 – 1.
5 minutes to go and Adriau shoots through an open
England defense still playing box-diamond for the
number 5 to touch in leaving Barton no chance! within a
minute Mozambique make it 1 -3 with a cross that
deflects off Pearce to go under Barton.
The defense system is not working, so coach Amaral
switches to man to man to end the half
ENGLAND 1 – 3 MOZAMBIQUE .
2nd half starts off more promising as the man to man is
working far better against a slower team.
7 minutes into the 2nd half and Taylor receives a
straight blue only his 2nd card of the Championships!
Taylor, after being fouled and still on the floor is
chopped across the forearm by a 2nd Mozambique
player to which the Italian referee gives him a yellow
and because Taylor throws his stick the blue!!
With a 5 minute penalty Austin gets back in on the
action and all the chances go England’s way, but both
the Mozambique keeper and defense are working well
and keeping us out.
It takes the Mozambique team 13 minutes to get a shot
on target, but we fail to make the most of our
opportunities and the match ends with no goals in the
half ENGLAND 1 – 3 MOZAMBIQUE.
Wednesday is a rest day, and now on Thursday we will
play Chile in the 9th to 16th place games.
A better performance with little luck & now the Team
has it all to do to stay in the’ A’ group.
