A warm welcome to the 2003 / 2004 newsletter series from the executive members of Northern Counties Roller Hockey Association.
A decision was taken at the very poorly attended Annual General Meeting – minutes are included as part of this issue – to continue the newsletters as these are seen as the best possible way to inform you the members of what exactly is happening in our region.
It is also an outlet for all other regions and the national body to reach you, we will see if the articles arrive?
Firstly to the annual general meeting, we would like to thank those that attended, club representatives from Moss side & Middlesbrough along with NRHA executives from our region.
Apologies were received from only one club official and Spectrum offered a written document on the items on the agenda. All in all a very poor turn out. Yet again since the AGM we have received comments – and this could be from your club – that people did not know the meeting was happening and had wished to attend.
We did 1) write to all secretaries, 2) put notice on the web site, 3) e-mailed all that we knew 4) posted a copy to all who receive the newsletter. Not a lot more could have been done.
Anyway enough, the minutes follow:
Firstly some announcements from over the summer:
1) Kenny Stockton got married – Julie his very nice bride has a lot to put up with and when she comes around from the sedation she will probably realise that – good luck Kenny and Julie
2) Glyn Thomas has broken his ankle playing – well that’s what he said he was doing – at the lennards. Glyn now says he is will be struggling to get around the rink for awhile – no change there then, (predictable that one)
3) Back to Kenny’s wedding – Derek Smith was seen twice at the Bar getting in a round, not his money of course.
4) James Hall and Mike Armstrong have been graded to grade 3, other promotions are imminent.
5) One of our regions referees has been offered a substantial amount of money to become a resident referee at the newly re-formed once again for the 5th time Bury St Edmunds
6) Mike Smith, one of our ardent followers and supporter of all he can for us, was heard yet again on Eurosport commentating on the Tour de France, and just to show his versatility was also heard on the American darts, table tennis and the up coming new Olympic sport of Tiddlywinks from Russia
7) Stephen Hancocks, Big Bill from Grimsby has taken over as NRHA Treasurer and is taking advice from Mr Johnson as to how best invest the finances.
Talking of Mr Johnson of Grimsby and Bill for that matter, when will they be taking their referee test I have been asked – having received copies early last season we still await the return.
9) Finally, a warm welcome back to the roller hockey world for the Spectrum Spartans “SENIOR” team, making a re-appearance after many years in the elite league. They will soon come to grips with the fact that some of the rules have changed since 1985. Some familiar faces will be soon seen gracing the playing surfaces once again, mind you some un familiar beer guts will also be there. I am told they have been in training for weeks now and all are upto 8 or 9 pints a night.
