NCRHA Ladies Clean Up at All Levels!

June 30th, 2003 · No Comments

The NCRHA Senior Ladies, and the U13’s Ladies, wiped the board with all their challengers from other regions to top both leagues, in this inaugural season of Ladies National League Hockey.

Claire Currey, England Captain and National Ladies Leagues Co-ordinator said “The seniors was very competitive, with the Northern Ladies beating us at the end of goal difference”. Claire, who as well as being the driving force behind getting these leagues underway (and also in a year long contract dispute with her old spanish club allowing her to play for the southern team), ws there playing against other England players based in the North and Eastern Regions.

The NCRHA U13’s Ladies, despite losing a couple of games (to teams that included boys, so in reality, ineligible to play) were also extremely strong when playing ‘all-girl’ opposition.

With players from all over the region from Clubs such as Grimsby, Moss Side, and Middlesbrough, these girls shine out as excellent prospects for the England side, and some have already been asked to train with the Ladies National Team (a fitting result for an excellent year’s hockey!).

Well DONE NCRHA…………….now you have to defned the Championship in 2003/4 ! ! !

Tony Czifra, NRHA Competitions Director said “It is very important for Roller Hockey to BUILD on this first season. Players should look to get parents and friends involved, as it is a lot more than just a few kids knocking a ball around. claire has done a lot of hard work to start the wheels rolling on Ladies Roller Hockey in England. It will continue if Parents and Senior Ladies players stay involved, and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. England Ladies are ranked far higher than England Men in the World rankings. Ladies should aim to be in the top 3 within 5 years. But without more Ladies playing at regional level and at the entry stage, their will not be a wide enough player base to drive the elite to that point.”
