England Ladies

The England Ladies Junior Squad has just returned from an International
tournament in Krefeld, Germany with the Bronze medal. Here are some of their
comments:

„We had a great time, it was nice and hot too, except on Sunday afternoon
when it rained quite hard!!
We had quite a slow start, drawing the first 2 games, even if some of it was
down to very bad refereeing!! But by the end of Saturday we were playing
well together and won our first game. We won our second game on Sunday
morning, then our heads went down a bit in the second game of the day
against the Swiss National team, who came 2nd in the tournament, we lost
against them, but the second half was a lot better than the first after a
stern talking to from D and Twinny!! Then we put everything into the last
game, and came back from being 1-0 down to win 2-1 and got 3rd place.‰
Fiona Bishop (Kings Lynn and England Ladies)

„For our first competition playing as a team to come third was not bad at
all. We went out there with no expectations and came back with bronze, we
were all happy. The best team to play must have been krefeld such a nice
welcoming team very good to play against. Got our own back on the one of the
Dutch teams Sunday morning when we beat them 4-0 for they kept us up all
night. Our best performance I think was our last game in the third and forth
place playoff we played wimmis, who we had drawn one all with us in our
first game. Both teams had matured well throughout the tournament, but at
the end of the day we wanted that place more and we went out to get it.‰
Lucie Spooner (Farnham and England Ladies)

„The weekend was gr8. The weather was v hot, and wet!!
Everyone played well only losing 1 match. We only had a few hrs sleep both
nights, and a referee who seriously needed glasses!!! We collected a good
handful of yellow cards (big thanx 2 Lucy 4 that!!)
all enjoyed r-selves.‰
Kate Bennett (Mayflower and England Ladies)

„Germany was a really great and exciting experience for me. And i enjoyed it
totally! (in a way wish i was still there!)
All the games were exciting that we played because there wasn’t a big
score between the two teams and we didn’t know what would happen from 1
minute to the next! (This was rather scary but exciting)
The best bit for me (definitely not the flight or the water!) Was
playing against people who we have never played before. Also the people
there were really friendly and we all had a really good laugh.‰
Rachel Joy (Cambridge and England Ladies)

„It is a great achievement just to have an England junior team, but to come
third at their first senior tournament is great. This season has been really
positive with lots of new players coming through. With so much new talent us
older players are going to have to really work hard to keep in the squad!‰
Claire Currey (CP Alcobendas and England Ladies)
