Team Vs Club – What’s the Difference?

June 5th, 2003 · No Comments

“Many of the NRHA’s so called Clubs are really just team’s of 10 blokes who have been getting together to play hockey every now and again for years, that have no Club structure and make no effort to recruit and develop kids” said NRHA Marketing Director, Kos Galtos, “These teams ultimately break up or get old and leave nothing behind for the future of our sport”.

“Real Clubs ensure a future of Roller Hockey by actively recruiting kids to play the game and involving their parents in meaningful ways in the decision making of the Club.”

“This means that knowledge and the power to make decisions is shared and the attitude of, normally the Club founder, “we will do it my way” becomes a thing of the past.”

With an increasing membership, greater involvement by parents and much more competitive matches, Roller Hockey in England is now turning the corner. For the sport to get to the next level we all need to work on improving our Clubs and ensuring that they meet their responsibilities to help grow and develop the sport.

“A Real Club actively recruits members, referees and helpers, provides coaching for its teams, shares knowledge internally, promotes itself within the community and to potential spectators, involves its supporters in its operations” said NRHA Executive Tony Czifra.

“Over the coming season the NRHA shall be doing everything possible to help Clubs, and those interested in becoming Real Clubs, to improve the way they work and I look forward helping wherever I can so our sport can go on and on into the future!”
