NRHA Statement on Helmets.

February 15th, 2003 · No Comments

In response to a recent misunderstanding of the Rules of the Game by the ECRHA Executive a particular style of plastic/polyurethane helmet was incorrectly granted permission for use in its competitions.

“The NRHA Executive has realised the ECRHA’s mistake and ruled the particular helmet illegal for use in any competition held in England at any level” said Tony Czifra, NRHA Competitions & Officials Director. “A clarification on the use of Helmets in English Roller Hockey has now been sent to all Regions, Clubs, Referees and Suppliers in England requiring full compliance with Article 11, section 2.6 of The Rules of The Game”.

“The NRHA Executive have moved swiftly to protect the safety of all players and to eliminate the misunderstanding on the interpretation of the rules ” said Tony.

Neville Black, NCRHA President and one of the most respected International Grade A Referees in the World, added weight to the NRHA’s stance by commenting “All we have to do is abide by the International Rules of the Game which are quite clear that only leather or soft plastic helmets are acceptable. Neither teams nor individual players breaking this rule, should be allowed to take part in matches under NRHA jurisdiction.”

Looking at the volume of discussion on TalkRollerHockey.net, 68 posts and 666 views, the issue of helmets and there type is clearly a subject many in our sport feel very strongly about, and seems sure to be thoroughly discussed at the NRHA AGM this July
