Over recent weeks the use of helmets by floor players has become a topic of active discussion by many in our sport concerned with player safety.
The NRHA policy is that all but soft skinned helmets are contrary to the rules established and issued by the CIRH (the international governing body) which all sanctioned NRHA matches are played under.
“As accredited representatives of the NRHA, player safety requires that, Referees must enforce the playing rules that have been laid down by the association at our AGM’s”, said NRHA Competitions Director, Tony Czifra.
“I believe that our principal concern must be for the safety of all of the players on the floor and my view, and that of the international authorities governing our game around the world, is that all but the softest of helmets represent greater potential dangers then they prevent.”
Significant discussion of this matter at the NRHA’s AGM this July is sure to occur, as to date any attempt to modify the rules to allow harder skinned helmets has been actively opposed by the majority of Club delegates.
