Congratulations England!

England should be proud of their performance at the World Championship and having qualified from the hardest group, with Austria 5th and Macau 6th, have shown that English Roller Hockey is on the improve!

Captain and goalkeeper Daniel Barton played outstandingly, as did the England defence, with England achieving the best goal difference of any team in the competition (32 for and 4 against).

England’s top scorers were James Taylor (8), Shaun Pearce (4), Mark Waddingham (3) and Darrell Pearce (3).

It appears that the whole team worked well together both on and off the rink to achieve their objective of promotion to the World group A Championships in Portugal 2003. The players should be praised for it and Coach Amaral and Team Manager Keith Allen must be thanked for the significant contribution that they have made to the team, and English Roller Hockey as a whole.

As is fitting Coach Amaral shall have this final word, “We came to do a job and the jobs done. The boys were fantastic! I now look forward to returning with the team to my country Portugal for the Group A championships next September where I know we can beat Holland, USA, Germany and at least another Latin country to stay up.”
