Plymouth’s three Roller Hockey Clubs hosted Plymouth’s largest ever invitation tournament this weekend with over 100 players taking part. The Southern League Invitation Tournament had to be held at 3 different venues after the event proved so popular that it was impossible to fit in all the games in one weekend at one venue.

Teams travelled from Manchester, Reading and Southsea to participate and
Lipson, Mayflower and Plymouth Roller Hockey Clubs entered 7 teams.

Plymouth conquered the Minors (under 13’s age group) with Plymouth Pirates from Plymouth Roller Hockey Club coming first and Lipson Leopards coming a close second. The Intermediates (under 15’s age group) was won by Manchester Bulldogs Mayflower coming second.

Referee Andrew Grant said “I was impressed by the Sportsman like attitude of the players and very few cards were issued over the tournament. The away teams slept in the local players homes and the atmosphere was competitive but friendly.”

Adrian Smith, National Roller Hockey Association Executive presented the impressive trophies to every team and congratulated the Local Clubs on running a professional tournament.

Event Organiser Sue Grant from Lipson Roller Hockey Club said “ It was a tough job organising the event but the success of the tournament was all down to the hard work and co-operation of the parents and adults of the local clubs who worked extremely hard over the weekend to ensure that the children had an exciting and enjoyable tournament.
