The 5th Ladies World Championship is currently being contested in Paços de Ferreira, Portugal with 16 teams in attendance from around the world.

This successful competition sees the traditional favourites Spain, Argentina and Portugal dominating their matches in a race to see who are the best.

England, who does not benefit from any form of regular National competition, has taken a young team that opened their championship by beating South Africa 9-0, but has since lost to USA 3-1 and to favourites Spain 15-0.

“The team is basically playing a Box/Diamond defensive system and an attack that is almost exclusively counter attacks” said Glyn Thomas, NRHA President, “The up and down style of play has highlighted the difference in fitness levels between the teams and it is hard going for the girls.”

England now has two more matches remaining, against India and Australia, which they must win to achieve 10th place.
