After a magnificent 3-1 win last night over a very strong Italian side, Spain looks like the team most likely to win the 2002 European Junior Championship.
With their traditional professionalism supported by sharp intense passing the Spanish clinically disassembled the Italian defense and overcame a highly physical opponent in a match that saw 2 red cards and numerious sending offs.
England Coach Carlos Amaral, having to face a second more important match this evening against a Swiss side that beat the French last night 3-2, choose to conserve the energy of his main team and allow his bench to gain experience against the worlds best in their match at 9:00 am this morning.
In what should be seen as a positive example of the increasing international competitiveness of English teams, the boys successfully held Spain to 3-0 at the half time break and made 10 shots on the goal of the ‘apprenticed’ professionals (to their 21).
The second half saw a more inexperienced English selection fighting off the Spanish with the final result being 13-0.
With this strong first half performance and a solid win over Germany tonights match against the Swiss should be an exciting encounter.
