The weekends Lennards Cup in Southsea was an outstanding success that was helped by sunny weather and the positive spirit of all who attended.
Last minute withdrawals by Premier League Clubs Maidstone, Letchworth and Manchester almost spoilt the season opener, but thanks to the efforts of NRHA Competitions Director Tony Czifra, enthusiastic Southsea and Mayflower soon signed up to fill in for the bigger Clubs.
The England Schoolboys, who where already playing in the competition to gain experience for the upcoming European championship, filled the place of Manchester and played an incredible 8 matches during the two day tournament and finished in 4th place!
The eventual winner of the 2002 Lennards Cup was Middlesbrough RHC, with Herne United second and Herne Bay United third.
Best player, as voted by the Captains of participating teams was Michael Ableson (England Schoolboys), Best Goalkeeper was Shane Green (Southsea) and Best Team player was Arnaud Spreux (Farnham).
