Following their brilliant first round performances, England were rewarded with a 6-2 rout of the Austrians!
Starting with Ian Morrison (Goal), Andrew Ashurst (captain), Neil Austin, James Taylor and Shaun Pierce, Coach Carlos Amaral pushed a tired England to perform.
Despite going down a goal in the first 5 minutes, England soon came back by piling tremendous pressure on the Austrian defence for Neil Austin to equalize in the 11th minute. and then, twenty seconds later, Joe Wheatley made the score 2-1 to England.
England’s newest pro player, James Taylor, soon got in on the act with a brilliant flick shot that spelled the end for the Austrians and by the close of the first half England’s dominance was obvious, achieving 80% possession and 32 shots on goal compared to Austria’s 7.
With England’s confidence on a high, the team pressed the Austrians to score within one minute of the start of the second half with 16 year old James Taylor putting in a stinging slapshot for his second goal of the match.
Captain, Andrew Ashurst, slotted in a well worked goal in the 5th minute, and soon after having seen his second penalty of the tournament saved by the Austrian keeper, made up for this in the tenth minute with another goal from a good slapshot.
With England on a high and pressing the opposition, the Austrians managed to score a counter attack goal against the run of play but it was all to late and England won 6-2.
